About ICPEP
In 1992, a group of computer engineering professionals formed the Philippine Institute of Computer Engineers, Inc. (PhICEs). PhICEs managed to gather a number of professional members. They conducted conventions, seminars and symposia in several regions in Luzon and Visayas. After being active for several years, PhICEs became dormant.
In 2008, computer engineering professionals from different organizations converged to unite all graduates of the same discipline into the national association once again. The group, headed by Engr. Alexander Ybasco and Engr. Erwin Mendoza, picked up from where PhICEs started. This time, the demand came not from the academe alone but from the industry as well. Meeting after meeting, the group decided to change the name in the hope of renewing its success. Thus, the Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (ICpEP) was born.
ICpEP is a non-stock, non-profit professional organization of computer engineers in the Philippines. It is recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a long-term partner in quality undergraduate and graduate education in the areas of computer engineering and in enhancing the competitiveness of our graduates in order to contribute to the economic, scientific, and social development of the country.
ICpEP envisions itself as the foundation of world-class computer engineers and the motivator of interest towards excellence in computer engineering as the field of specialization. It aims to:
• Unite all computer engineers into the national association;
• Establish advocacy, conferences, outreach activities, and publications dedicated to computer engineers;
• Participate with other allied societies and organizations in policy initiatives involving computer engineering as a profession;
• Provide an opportunity to contribute and attend presentations on research and development in the field of computer engineering;
• Enhance the skills and knowledge of computer engineers through seminars and trainings;
• Publish reports, surveys, guides and other resources in computer engineering for the professional community;
• Support its student edition through encouragement, guidance and assistance; and
• Build a central source of interest and value to members, the profession and the general public.
ICpEP has established a strong partnership with the industry. Local and international companies such as Intel, Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, Epson, Red Fox, and PC Buyers Guide recognize ICpEP as the sole organization dedicated to computer engineers in the Philippines. Furthermore, SM Mall of Asia, in the presence of NIDO Fortified Science Discovery Center, has a continuous collaboration with the ICpEP in promoting research and development in the Philippines through a showcase of notable design projects related to computer engineering.
ICpEP has successfully formed its academic linkage to universities and colleges though the Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines Student Edition (ICpEP.SE). Established also in 2008, ICpEP.SE started with 11 schools, namely: Adamson University, Asia Pacific College, Central Colleges of the Philippines, De La Salle University, Far Eastern University-East Asia College, Mapua Institute of Technology, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Manila, STI College-Recto, and Technological Institute of the Philippines-Manila and -Quezon City. Now, ICpEP.SE is composed of fifty-two (52) schools from all over the Philippines and it continues to grow rapidly.
Industry partners provide technical updates and support to the members through ICpEP national events. Among these events include:
• CpEyesta (general assembly),
• Fastest Geek (PC assembly competition),
• CpE Challenge (computer engineering quiz bee),
• Sports Fest (sports competition), and
• ENGbensyon (design project competition).
ICpEP firmly believes that uniting our professionals will contribute to the national development and will improve the lives of the people. With strong partnership from the industry and the academe, ICpEP will remain as a reputable professional organization of computer engineers. ICpEP will strive to engage every Filipino computer engineer to become active, involved and significant in achieving one common goal: to become world-class.
